YAHTARIS is my vision, but its success is due to the efforts of many people. Without the help of my husband, Jon, and my parents/sister, this would be a much more difficult endeavor. In addition to my family, I am blessed with many friends and mentors I have met through my dogs.
The YAHTARIS value system is very simple: family is our first priority--and dogs are family. Our dogs are fully integrated into our homes; they enjoy car trips for field work, but also for a quick ice cream cone. They can hike all day and sleep soundly in a tent. They love to help garden, cuddle up for a movie, or travel to a dog show. What we have been able to breed are dogs that want to do anything, and everything, we want to do.
Our dogs are raised holistically. They are fed according to the BARF diet, are minimally vaccinated, and have minor health issues treated naturally whenever reasonable. While this approach is not for everyone, it has been a great fit for us.
Our breeding goal is to preserve the qualities that make a Flat-Coated Retriever unique--their traits are very different from other retrieving breeds, and we cherish those differences. We are committed to producing well-rounded dogs with wonderful temperaments, adhering to the breed standard, improving longevity, and fostering the multi-purpose nature of the Flat-Coated Retriever.
We are well-rounded, too. We like to hike, garden, attend sporting events, read, argue politics, ski, camp, swim, or have a quiet dinner with friends. We are humorous people, and we are loving people--it is no surprise that we are so compatible with the Flat-Coated Retriever breed.
